How to use

- Set the number of people who are splitting the bill. Leave it at 1 if you're paying alone.

Frequently asked questions
How is the tip amount calculated?
The tip is your bill amount multiplied by the tip percentage. For example, a $50 bill at 18% gives a tip of $50 × 0.18 = $9.00, for a total of $59.00. The tool does this instantly and rounds the displayed amounts to two decimal places.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax total?
That's a personal choice. Many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal, while others tip on the full total including tax for simplicity. This calculator applies your chosen percentage to whatever bill amount you enter, so just type in whichever figure you prefer to tip on.
How does splitting the bill work?
Enter the number of people sharing the check and the tool divides the total (bill plus tip) evenly among them, also showing the tip portion each person contributes. It uses whole people, so if you enter a decimal it rounds down to the nearest whole number. If you leave the field blank or enter zero, it simply won't show a per-person split until you add at least one person.
What tip percentages should I use?
The quick presets cover the most common levels: 10%, 15%, 18%, 20%, and 25%. In many countries 15–20% is customary for good table service, while 10% or a rounded-up amount is common for counter service or delivery. Customs vary by region, so use the custom field if your situation calls for something different.
Does this handle uneven cents when splitting?
Each person's share is shown rounded to two decimal places. When a total doesn't divide perfectly, the rounded per-person amounts may add up to a cent or two more or less than the exact total. In practice one person can simply cover the extra cent, or you can round the tip slightly so the split comes out clean.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The Tip Calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded, saved, or shared. All the math happens locally on your device, which also means it keeps working offline once the page has loaded, making it handy in restaurants with spotty connections.
